So… when will Table Wine reopen for in-store shopping? Grocery stores and other retail stores are open. Why aren’t we?
There are many things to consider, and my team and I have discussed them at great length. “Safety First” is our motto, and we are closely following the recommendations of doctors and health professionals. I’m not going to get into the science of COVID as it’s a touchy subject for some, but I know it’s real. I have an aunt in Missouri who just succumbed to COVID earlier this week.
The simple explanation is this — if one of us tests positive, we have to close for at least two weeks. That means zero revenue during one of the busiest times of the year. That means you don’t get to buy the delicious small grower/producers wines you’ve grown to love from us. That means no income for my employees or for myself.
As I’ve explained before, Table Wine is small and social distancing would be nearly impossible. If someone in a grocery store or large retail chain tests positive, they send home those working in close proximity (which is few), clean the work station and reopen the next day….if they even close. If one of us tests positive, everyone has to stay home, as it is impossible for us not to be in close quarters while at work. And I can assure you that David, Sarah, Martha, and myself are being incredibly cautious and careful both in and out of the store.
So that’s why we’re not reopening for foot traffic any time soon. My employee’s, my family’s and your health and safety are of paramount importance. Equally important is being able to keep my staff and myself gainfully employed.
